OHIP Coverage

Since November 1st, 2004, routine eye examinations provided by either an optometrist or physician, for patients aged 20 to 64, have not been covered by OHIP.

Patients 65 years and older and 19 and under will continue to have OHIP coverage for an eye examination once every 12 months. Please remember to bring your valid OHIP card every time you visit the clinic.

Changes do not affect ophthalmology services for patients of any age with medical conditions or diseases affecting the eyes (i.e. glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataract).  However, those patients require a referral letter from our clinic.

Patients may have coverage through their own insurance plans. You may contact your Benefits Provider to inquire. Below are some commonly used plans:
